European Law in the “judicial training” – 2014 -2010 European Judicial Training
Rome, 17th of June 2013, at the premises of National Forensic Council (Consiglio Nazionale Forense), via del Governo Vecchio, 3, Rome This conference was a good opportunity for Italian lawyers and training experts to familiarise themselves with the project on lawyers’ training in EU Law and with the objectives of the Commission regarding training activities in EU Law during the multi-annual framework period 2014-2020. M. Pier Giovanni Traversa introduced the session by presenting his role as national contact point for Italy and the importance of the study for the Italian lawyers. Ms Emmanuelle Cretin-Magand, Policy officer at DG Justice, made a presentation on the Justice Programme – “European judicial training 2014-2020”. Ms Amélie Leclercq, project manager of the Lot 2 project (“Study on the state of play of lawyers training in EU law”), made a presentation of the project, the categories of professionals targeted by the project, the methodology and the content of materials to be used. Mr Alarico Mariani Marini, Vice- President of the Scuola Superiore dell'Avvocatura made an introductory representation on the state of play of lawyers’ training in Italy. He also spoke about the challenges and difficulties that young lawyers face when entering the job market and expressed the will of a closer cooperation between national training providers and the European Commission. Italy ranks high on the number of lawyers registered with the Bar Associations (approx. 260.000 registered lawyers), which makes organising training activities a challenge which the Consiglio Nazionale Forense (Italian National Bar) is currently addressing.
Mr Marini also stressed that following the entry into force of the Lisbon Treaty the fundamental rights charter has the same legal value as the European Union treaties. Italian higher courts and judges are well aware of this development. Therefore, there is an urgent need to train lawyers on specialised EU law issues that may arise in their daily legal work. Speakers: Avv. ALARICO MARIANI MARINI, Vice-President of the Higher School for Advocacy (Scuola Superiore dell'Avvocatura) AMÉLIE LECLERCQ, Project Manager with EIPA Luxembourg (European Centre for Judges and Lawyers) EMMANUELLE CRETIN-MAGAND, Policy officer - European judicial training Directorate-General for Justice (JUST), European Commission PIER GIOVANNI TRAVERSA, Lawyer, National Expert with CCBE |
